The best posh nosh delivered to your door
The list of takeaway menus stuck to my fridge door used to consist solely of pizza, Indian, and Chinese but since the arrival of Deliveroo in Brighton the options have exploded and you can order anything from a roast dinner, right through to an English breakfast.
Although we now have more choice, not all food travels well and not all of your favourite restaurants can deliver the same high standard as they do when you eat in. Luckily I’m here to point you in the right direction of those that do.
1. The Chilli Pickle Canteen – Indian
Once you’ve had a curry from The Chilli Pickle it’s unlikely that your local tandoori will ever match up. Go for either the Grand Thali Box or Railway Tray and you’ll be wondering what you’ve ordered from Amazon before realising dinner has arrived. The IKEA style instruction sheet that comes with your food may seem overkill but it will stop you dunking your poppadom in your pudding.
2. La Cave á Fromage – French
It’s the middle of the night and you’re feeling peckish, you don’t want a whole meal so what do you order? How about a box of fine cheeses or charcuterie for two, for less than a tenner? Better still, add a bottle of ‘vin rouge’ to your order and voila! – the perfect foodie night in.
3. Dougbo – Italian / Fusion
Love takeaway pizza but find it tricky to decide what toppings you want. Try Doughbo. Serving up little Neapolitan dough balls stuffed with a variety of fillings, which can either be ordered individually to mix and match or, by picking one of the three pre-set groupings; ‘Classic’, ‘Gourmet’ or ‘Veggie. It’s the perfect takeaway to share.
4. Moshimo – Japanese
I don’t know about you but nothing causes me more disappointment than when a takeaway arrives stone cold. To avoid any dashed hopes, place an order for one of Moshimo’s fresh sushi boxes or sushi platters – designed to be eaten cold. What’s more, with a brand new dedicated Deliveroo kitchen serving Hove to Portslade you don’t have to miss out if you live on the outskirts of the city.
5. Purezza – Vegan & Gluten-Free
Follow a vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free diet and you may find your options are limited on traditional takeaway menus. However, this is not the case if you order from Purezza, an Italian restaurant and pizzeria which has coined itself the ‘plant pioneers’. With options ranging from sourdough vegan pizza, with artisan cheese made from brown rice to raw food salads, pasta and pea protein burgers, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
