First Look Inside The Ivy, Brighton

A photo of the onyx bar at The Ivy in The Lanes in Brighton

Two weeks ago I shared the opening date for The Ivy in The Lanes – the most hotly anticipated restaurant to come to Brighton so far this year. Since then, I’ve been in for an early preview with the press to take some of my own photos and meet the team. Here’s what I found out when I popped in…

Matt Ottley, The Salt Room‘s former bar manager, is one of the team who has been snapped up by The Ivy and he will lead 15 suited and booted bar staff, serving cocktails, beers, cider and wine, as well as coolers and juices at the impressive oynx bar. An Ivy ‘house Champagne’ will also feature on the bar menu, for £9.75 – let’s just hope it tastes as good as its price!

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the venue for the first time, if there was a budget for this fit out I’ll be amazed if it was stuck to, as it seems to be a no-expense-spared kind of look. Rather than describe every inch of the opulent decor to you, I’ll keep this post short and sweet and photo heavy as I’ll be heading down to The Ivy next Monday for the launch party and the following weekend after that, to the blogger’s brunch and reporting back afterwards.

For now, here are a few of my photos…Tables set inside The Ivy restaurant in Brighton

These are the Ivy’s shots. Strangely I wasn’t permitted to shoot any wide-angle shots of my own so I’ve had to use theirs.

I’d say your photos are better! 🙂 They convey the atmosphere better and have richer colours. The Ivy’s own wide angle shots look too HDR’ed and flat to my taste. The only thing that isn’t top notch in your photos is the ladies’ toilet one because of the converging verticals. Can easily be fixed in Photoshop or Lightroom in 2 seconds, if you wish. 🙂
